The Inspiration GuildBy Karel JohnsonPhotos by Leslie Giese and Karel Johnson This project is sponsored by the Blank Textile Co. through an organization called "The Inspiration Guild". Blocks using at least 50% Blank Textile fabrics are submitted to this guild. For every block submitted, Blank donates $1 to ovarian cancer research. When the guild has received 81 blocks, they put them together into a quilt and have it professionally machine quilted. Then the quilt is auctioned off and all the proceeds go to ovarian cancer research. Blank has also produced a collection of fabrics for the project and a portion of the receipts from the sale of those fabrics also goes to research. Karel reports that the Calvary members have put together 25 blocks, and she has fabric for more! Visit www.blankquilting.com and click on Inspiration Guild, you will be able to learn all about it and even see some of the quilts that have been made over the last couple years. Each quilt is dedicated to a person who has suffered and/or died of ovarian cancer.. Joyce Imboden has written a dedication to Jan Stuenkel, in hopes that a future quilt may be dedicated to her. Blank Textiles has said recently that they will continue to support this project as long as people continue to submit blocks. The company has even begun to market a whole new ovarian cancer collection of fabrics in the same colors as the fabrics we have been using. Here are some pictures of the Quilters in action! This is a wonderful opportunity for members and friends of the church to gather for fun, sewing practice, and to work for a great cause. If you would like to participate, please watch for announcements in the bulletin and Proclamation, or contact Karel Johnson directly. |
