Service Ministry

Through programs of care visitors, helping hands, church office volunteers, and collections for special needs, Calvary’s Service Ministry promotes the church’s mission in meeting human needs by serving all people in the name of Christ.
Church members serve as advocates for concerns to the local community (Burke Mission Station, Hospice, Options) and the global community, especially those programs of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (World Hunger, Missionary Support, Lutheran World Relief, and more…)

BUCM Ministry – Several teams of volunteers work at the Burke Mission Station.  Lunch and dinners are served five days a week in the Soup Kitchen by volunteers from various churches.  There is also  a Food Pantry where volunteers stock shelves and help distribute foods.

Ministry of Encouragement – This ministry was started as a way to say “thank you” to the many community organizations that serve Morganton and Burke County.  Often these organizations are taken for granted and don’t get the recognition they deserve, such as police and firemen.  Several times a year, members of Calvary visit to say “thank you” , give refreshments and give encouragement on behalf of a grateful community.  Click on the link to see the most recent visitation. The Forest Oaks School.

Backpack MinistryBackpacks filled with food for the weekend are distributed through school counselors to families in need at a local elementary school. Backpacks are distributed throughout the school year, and special food distributions are made periodically during the summer months.
